Aerobic fermentation process for preparing poly:hydroxy:butyric acid

A two-step fermentation process for the preparation of polyhydroxybutyric acid comprises aerobic cultivation of microorganisms in an aqueous culture medium containing an assimilatable carbon source and nutrients required for energy consumption and microorganism growth. The novelty is that methylobacterium rhodesianum IMET 11401-DMS 8166 genus microorganisms are cultivated using glycerol as a carbon and energy source to form polyhydroxybutyric acid, which is separated by know techniques.
