<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Stirling engine that can control an output with high responsiveness. <P>SOLUTION: The Stirling engine 10A being anαtype one includes: a partition wall 62a for partitioning an internal space of a crankcase 62 into an internal space on a high temperature side cylinder 20A side and an internal space on a low temperature side cylinder 30A side; a communicating part 62b for communicating the internal spaces partitioned by the partition wall 62a with each other; a regulating valve 70 for communicating and blocking a path formed by the communicating part 62b so as to be variable in opening degree; and an ECU 80A for controlling the regulating valve 70 so that the opening degree thereof is changed according to an actual output and a required output.
