The invention relates to the use of devices 2, 7, 8, 14, 15 which can be inflated automatically as a function of a signal in order to protect the operator in forklift trucks 1 or the like. The truck 1 comprises a structure which at least partially surrounds the area of the operator 4, a steering wheel 3 for steering the wheels of the truck and a seat 6 for the operator 4 and it is characterized in that the devices 2, 7, 8, 14, 15 which can be inflated automatically as a function of a signal are arranged around the operator 4 for the latter's protection. Total protection of the operator against any type of accident (for example, turning over sideways) is achieved. <IMAGE>
