<p>A child car seat comprising a base part 24 and a backrest part 26. The backrest 26 is pivotably connected to the base 24 which may be by a four-joint linkage 28 with lever arms 30, 32. The backrest 26 pivots from a first position (fig 2) where the seat is facing forwards as a toddler seat to a second position (fig 3) where the seat is facing rearwards as an infant carrier. The arms 30, 32 of the four-joint linkage 28 can be crossed so that as the backrest 26 hinges over the base 24 an upper joining point of one arm with the backrest becomes a lower joining point with the backrest (the backrest turns upside-down). A seat support device 48 has a slot 54 in its base plate 52 and side slots 58 along which a supporting rod 60 slides relative to the base plate 52. A spring-loaded handle (fig 8, 64) actuates the supporting rods movement. The child seat has a five point harness with seat belts (fig 7, 66) which can slide along slots (fig 7, 76) in the base part 24 allowing the same belts to be used for both forward and backward facing positions.</p> |
