Coelenterazine analogues of formula (1) wherein R1 is hydrogen; a substituted or unsubstituted aryl; a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkyl; a substituted or unsubstituted arylalkenyl; and alkyl which may be optionally substituted with an alicyclic group; an alkenyl which may be optionally substituted with an alicyclic group; an alicyclic group; or a heterocyclic group. A kit comprising (i) the coelenterazine compound of formula (1); and (ii) at least one selected from a luciferase, a polynucleotide encoding the luciferase, a recombinant vector comprising the polynucleotide, and a transformant comprising the polynucleotide is also provided. Preferably the luciferase is a 19kDa protein of Oplophorous luciferase. A method for luminescence comprising contacting the coelenterazine analogue of formula (1) with a luciferase; a method for assaying the activity of a sequence associated with promoter regulation, comprising using a polynucleotide encoding a luciferase as a reporter gene and, as a luminescence substrate a coelenterazine analogue of formula (1); and a method of preparing coelenterazine analogues of formula (1) are also outlined. |
