PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating film used as a coating film formed on the surface of glass, a mirror, a metallic article or the like and having persistent hydrophilicity and excellent properties such as abrasion resistance by including a titania/amorphous oxide composite material and fine silica particles having a particle diameter in a specified range and specifying the ratio of the amorphous oxide to the entire coating film of the outermost layer. SOLUTION: The fine silica powder used is one having a particle diameter of 3-15 nm, and the amorphous oxide amounts of 5-25 wt.% of the entire coating film on the outermost layer. This film is obtained by applying a composite sol solution comprising a titania sol capable of dehydrative condensation polycondensation, a starting sol of an oxide (desirably silica) which forms an amorphous oxide when dehydratively polycondensed and a colloidal silica solution to a substrate, firing the wet film at 400-850 deg.C to form a titania/amorphous oxide composite film containing fine silica particles. |
