PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the losses due to heat-induced birefringence which results from a temp. distribution in a slid state laser medium for providing a high- efficiency and high-quality laser beam. SOLUTION: This laser is disposed with device a YAG rod 5 and a polarizer 4 in a laser resonator, laser diodes 6-1 to 6-4 for exciting the rod 5 to provided a polarized laser beam, and heat sinks 7-1 to 7-4 making contracts to the rod 5 for cooling the rod 5, such that the laser diodes and heat sinks are disposed alternately with equal spacings to make the temp. gradient parallel or vertical to the polarizing direction of the laser beam in the rod 5. |
