PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp dimming/lighting device, wherein there is no wastage in power consumption because unnecessary current does not flow and only small-sized parts are needed to constitute a circuit for constituting a low-voltage power source from a commercial power source. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp dimming/lighting device is equipped with a high-frequency power source 3 for supplying high-frequency power to a discharge lamp, 4 a rectifying/smoothing circuit 2 for converting an output of the commercial power source 1 into a direct current voltage serving as a power source of the high-frequency power source 3, and a control part 5 for controlling the high-frequency power source by a dimming signal 7 outputted from a photocoupler 8, and a low-voltage power source 6 for the photocoupler 8 and for the control part 5 is generated from the commercial power source 1 and the high-frequency power source 3. In this case, a switching element 10 series-connected with the photocoupler 8 and a timer means 12, which is actuated just after the turning-on of the commercial power source 1 and closes the switching element 10 when a required period of time from the turning-on of the commercial power source 1 until the start of the high-frequency power source 3 has elapsed, are provided and a current is adapted so as to flow in the photocoupler 8, only when the switching element 10 is closed. |
