PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in a high yield by optically resolving N-carboxy-(RS)-tert-leucine with a specific optically active amine. SOLUTION: This method for producing (D) optically active N-carbobenzoxy- tert-leucine comprises reacting (A) N-carbobenzoxy-(RS)-tert-leucine with (B) optically active erythro-2-amino-1,2-diphenylethanol or (C) optically active cis-2- benzylaminocyclohexanamethanol in a solvent (e.g. ethyl acetate), subjecting two kinds of the produced diastereomers salts to a solid-liquid separation operation utilizing a difference between the solubilities of the diastereomers to separate the slightly soluble diastereomer salt as a solid, and subsequently decomposing the salt. The component B or C is preferably used in an amount of 0.3-1.5 moles per mole of the component A. |
