PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve convenience by quickening character input using a pen input device. SOLUTION: A CPU 401, when sensing an interruption initiated by the depression or release of a pen input mode switch 2, refers to coordinates data in a character input area of a memory 403 and transfers bit map data of the character input area or bit map data of normal image information to the coordinates of a frame buffer 404. Consequently, image information of the character input area can be displayed overlapping with the normal image information displayed on a liquid crystal display device 3 or not displayed.
