<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping force variable damper which can adjust damping force by simple control and favorably maintain responsiveness upon adjusting the damping force. <P>SOLUTION: The damping force variable damper 10 includes a cylinder 11 filled with hydraulic oil 12, a piston 13 slidably stored in the cylinder and segmenting the cylinder into upper and lower fluid chambers 21, 22, a valve means 15 that can open a fluid passage 37 when the piston is slid, and a piezoelectric body 16 that can press the valve means toward the fluid passage when a voltage is applied thereto.
