PROJECTOR OPTICAL SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a projector optical system constituted so that the viewing angle of a projection optical system can be widened and a light source whose efficiency is high can be used though the projection optical system and an illumination optical system are not enlarged. SOLUTION: The projector optical system is constituted so that pictures displayed on reflection type display panels PR, PG and PB are projected on a screen S by the projection optical system OP1 by illuminating the panels PR, PG and PB by the light source 1, a reflector 2, an integrator 3 and the illumination relay optical system OP2. Then, the optical system OP1 is constituted of a front group GrF and a rear group GrR in order from the screen S side and a reflection mirror M guiding illumination light is arranged between both groups. Besides, the negative lens power of the front group GrF with respect to the lens power of the whole optical system OP1 is properly regulated.
