A cooker electric hotplate control system, to heat to and maintain a foodstuff at a preset temperature comprises a controller to govern power input to an electric hotplate; a sensor to determine the temperature of the hotplate; and an infrared sensor detecting infrared radiation emitted by a foodstuff or a vessel containing a foodstuff on the hotplate. Fuzzy logic controllers use the first and second time derivatives of the temperatures to control the amount of power supplied to the hotplate, so that a foodstuff temperature is brought to and maintained at a preset temperature for a time period. The preset temperature may be a boiling or a frying temperature and may be determined using emissivity values of the vessel or a cooking oil. A computer communication system may comprise means to input linguistic variables that are compared with databases of descriptors and antonyms and of descriptor and antonym modifiers to give a numerical output from a secondary membership function incorporated into a linear general type-2 fuzzy set. The numerical values are combined to give an action numerical value that is associated with an action that is communicated to a user. |
