A cyclic polypeptide, derivative or analogue thereof, comprising an amino acid sequence derived from the C-terminus of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), or a truncation thereof. The cyclic peptide may be a selective antagonist of the α7 nicotinic-receptor and preferably outcompetes binding for β-amyloid. Alternatively the invention may comprise a cyclic polypeptide, derivative or analogue thereof, suitable for use as a receptor antagonist. The cyclic peptides can be for use in therapy or diagnosis, in particular a neurodegenerative disorder which can be characterised by the damage or death of Global neurons. Diseases may include Alzheimer's disease; Parkinson's disease; Huntington's disease; Motor Neurone disease; Spinocerebellar type 1, type 2, and type 3; Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS); Frontotemporal Dementia; and Schizophrenia. |
