<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device and method capable of achieving a high compression rate even when an image area is small. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing device has: a code table selector that calculates first and second dispersion values from a value of a peripheral pixel around an attention pixel, and selects a code table corresponding to a laterally-asymmetrical probability distribution having different dispersion values in a right side and a left side, depending on the first and second dispersion values; and an encoding or decoding part that encodes or decodes a residual obtained by subtracting a prediction value from a value of the attention pixel by using the selected code table. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
