The present invention is directed to a rechargeable battery (1) with an electrode assembly (10), a case (15), in which the electrode assembly (10) is arranged, and a cap plate (20) that closes an opening of the case (15). In order to provide that the cap plate (20) can be securely inserted into the opening, the invention provides that the cap plate (20) comprises two contact sections (C1, C2) at its opposite ends(73, 74), the contact sections (C1, C2) contacting the case (15) in an assembled state of the rechargeable battery (1), wherein the contact sections (C1, C2) are formed asymmetrically to each other. |
