PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for estimating power consumption is provided to obtain nearly the same result as one based on conditions of the KS power consumption test by estimating consumed energy during a predetermined time period. CONSTITUTION: A defrost timer period indicated as an accumulated value of operation time of a compressor is set(S3). A defrost heater is forced to be operated for defrosting and defrost time and defrost energy are measured(S7). A cooling cycle is performed including at least one time of a pause and an operation and consumed energy is measured during pause time and operation time(S10). A unit operation period of a refrigerator is estimated in response to the defrost timer period based on the defrost time, pause time, and operation time(S20). The consumed energy is estimated during a predetermined time period(S21).
