The present invention relates to a smart grid traffic signal controller comprising a power management function and an environment correspondence function, and a control method thereof. A traffic signal controller of the present invention has an effect of using emergency electricity when commercial electricity is not supplied from the outside and also when backup electricity drops short, and accordingly, has an effect of being able to prevent large scale blackout due to the shortage of electricity in advance. Also, the traffic signal controller of the present invention has an effect of being able to perform efficient traffic volume control and environment improvement by performing traffic signal control in correspondence to environment information such as weather (snow, rain, fog, heavy rain, heavy snow, etc), temperature, humidity, and degree of air pollution. The smart grid traffic signal controller of the present invention includes: a traffic signal control part for controlling the turning on/off of a traffic signal; a communications part which receives a black out warning or electricity information and environment information from an external traffic control server and then stores the same in a memory part; a power supply switching part which sets an electricity mode as a normal mode, in case a commercial electricity is inputted from the outside normally, and charges a charging part using the commercial electricity as supplying the commercial electricity inputted from the outside as driving electricity, and, on the other hand, sets the electricity mode as an emergency mode and supplies the emergency electricity charged in the charging part as the driving electricity, in case the commercial electricity is not inputted from the outside or reserved electricity lacks even though the commercial electricity is inputted from the outside normally; and a main control part which performs electricity management through the power supply switching part in correspondence to the blackout warning or the electricity information received from the external traffic control server, and performs traffic signal control through the traffic signal control part in correspondence to the environment information received from the external traffic control server. |
