PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device which is excellent in operability and usability, and is able to smoothly and properly display contents of setting, and a control method therefor. SOLUTION: The image pickup device records an image picked up by an image pickup means 14 in a recording means 24, and displays the recorded image by a display means 28. The image pickup device is provided with a control means 50 for controlling the whole unit, and an operation means 70 for setting the contents of setting including functions of the device or control contents. The control means 50 has a function for changing the contents of setting at the time of recording from the image pickup means 14 by the operation of the operation means 70, and the display means 28 has a function of displaying the contents of the present setting and a function of displaying the contents of the setting change done by the operation means 70. It is specified whether the change in the setting contents is right or wrong according to the display state of the display means 28 at the time of operating the operation means 70.
