Provided are an apparatus and a method for controlling flatness of a thick plate using a database. An apparatus for controlling flatness of a thick plate manufactured by a plurality of unit processes includes a first database prestoring poor flatness patterns that may occur related to the unit processes; a flatness measurement sensor measuring the shape of a thick plate after the unit processes in accordance with preset operation conditions are executed; and a flatness control unit changing the preset operation conditions with respect to the unit processes based on the measured shape of the thick plate and the poor flatness patterns stored in the first database to control the flatness of the thick plate for each of the unit processes, thereby shortening the time required for controlling the flatness of the thick plate.
