The present invention relates to an anode active material for a lithium secondary battery. The anode active material comprises a lithium transition metal oxide with a layered crystal structure in which lithium layers, wherein the lithium is inserted and eliminated in recharging and discharging processes, and transition metal layers comprising at least two kinds of transition metals are alternately arranged. Some of the lithium are dispersed in the transition metal layers in the form of a honeycomb unit in which the transition metals are arranged in the edges of a hexagon and the lithium is located in the middle of the hexagon.
