PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent having both high analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities substantially associated with no side effect. SOLUTION: This analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent comprises as the active ingredient a pharmaceutically acceptable water-soluble salt of incarvillateine of formula (I); wherein the compound of formula (I) is preferably such as to be extracted from Incarvillea sinensis LAM in particular. This agent is characterized by being drug-nondependent.
