PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a code compression/data conversion device and a code compression/data conversion method that enable construction of a system where video audio code compression can easily, automatically and temporarily be stopped when a system load gets heavier without the need for processing by an application program and the video audio code compression can be restarted when the system load gets lighter and that enable immediate resumption of the code compression when the system load gets lighter. SOLUTION: The code compression/data conversion device is provided that applies code compression processing to video and audio or either of them or converts the video and audio data in the system on which programs can work and records or distribute the result in real time and has a function of automatic temporary stop or automatic resumption of the code compression or the data conversion.
