COMMUNICATION TRANSPORT NETWORK AND ITS OPERATING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for monitoring the performance of part of a path in a communication transport network and the network. SOLUTION: A network element has a performance monitoring facility operating to report overall error rate at the element in the network path and the communication transport network is equipped with a management system which calculates the performance of a segment of the path between two elements from the reported overall error rates at the element. Monitoring can be performed by management software by using standard interfaces for gathering the reported error rates. Since not are paths require TCM, the processing that the network management system requires is not great.
