PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the flatness of portions of a long base plate and to improve the accuracy of a pivot hole. SOLUTION: The suspension for a disk drive having supporting plate means 3 and 7 in common use as carriage arms and a load beam 5 having a rigid body 13 and a spring 15 and exerting a load on a slider 43 at its front end is constituted by forming the supporting plates 3 and 7 of at least two layers of plates 3 and 7, subjecting at least one 7 of the plates 3 and 7 to etching treatment to form the plate to a plate thickness t2 at which the hole can be formed with good accuracy, forming the pivot hole 31 at the one plate 7 having the plate thickness t2 and forming a loose fitting hole 9 larger than the pivot hole 31 at the other plate 3.
