PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon-modified comb copolymer which is based on acryloyldimethyltauric acid or an acryloyldimethyltaurate and can stabilize a silicone-containing emulsion containing a silicone oil. SOLUTION: This copolymer, soluble or swellable in water, is obtained by subjecting (A) acryloyldimethyltauric acid and/or an acryloyldimethyltaurate; optionally, (B) at least one olefinically unsaturated, optionally cross-linkable comonomer having at least one oxygen, mtrogen, sulfur, or phosphorus atom and a mol.wt. lower than 500 g/mol; and (C) at least one monofunctional free- radically polymerizable silicon-containing component to free-radical copolymerization, optionally in the presence of (D) at least one polymeric additive having a number average mol.wt. of 200 g/mol-109 g/mol.
