Disclosed is a bipolar high voltage direct current (HVDC) system capable of reducing the use of a harmonic filter. The bipolar HVDC system of the present invention comprises: a first unipolar converter and a second unipolar converter to perform DC to AC conversion by the firing operation of a thyristor valve and connected in series; a first transformer and a second transformer to respectively connect the first unipolar converter and the second unipolar converter to an AC bus and having an electrical phase difference therebetween; and an AC filter to remove harmonics from the AC bus and filter a harmonic component.
