Disclosed is a projection apparatus which has: a light emitting element that radiates excitation light; a wavelength conversion section, which receives the excitation light, converts the excitation light into light having a different wavelength, and radiates the light as radiation light; and an optical filter that receives the radiation light. The optical filter reflects long-wavelength light having a longer wavelength than the wavelength of the radiation light. With such configuration, since the optical filter reflects the long-wavelength light having the longer wavelength than the wavelength of the radiation light, the wavelength conversion section is prevented from being irradiated with the long-wavelength light, and deterioration of the wavelength conversion section can be eliminated.
