PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blue to bluish green light-emitting aluminate fluorescent substance of high brightness with reduced deterioration of emission brightness caused on the baking treatment in the film-forming step, a fluorescent paste composition and a vacuum ultraviolet ray-excited light-emitting element. SOLUTION: The objective aluminate fluorescent substance comprises an alkaline earth metal element, for example, Ba, Sr, Ca, an element of Eu<2+> , Mn<2+> or the like, an element of Mg, Zn or the like and Al and has theαvalue ([f(R)]ν1500 /[f(R)]ν3500 ) of >=15 where [f(R)]ν3500 is the Kubelka-Munk function at the wave number of 3500 cm<-1> of the infrared absorption spectrum of the fluorescent substance according to the diffuse reflectance method and [f(R)]ν1500 is the Kubelka-Munk function at the wave number of 1500 cm<-1> . This invention further relates to a fluorescent paste composition including the fluorescent substance and a vacuum ultraviolet ray-exciting light-emitting element.
