PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asymmetrical compensation for a polarization dependent loss in a dual-polarization optical system.SOLUTION: In a method and a system for asymmetrically compensating deterioration of an optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) induced by a polarization dependent loss (PDL) in a dual-polarization optical system, use of an OSNR compensator is included. The OSNR compensator separates a dual-polarization component and it may be determined which component has the deteriorated OSNR. In the deteriorated component, OSNR compensation may be performed by using a phase sensitive amplifier and/or a regenerator having the phase sensitive amplifier. |
