The display control unit 100 generates the data signal VD to be supplied to the pixel Px in one display period T in such a manner that whichever gradation is designated by the image signal Din as a gradation to be displayed by the pixel Px in the one display period T, the transmittance of the liquid crystal element CL at an end time of one reset period R subsequent to the one display period T is equal to or more than a first value Bmin that is larger than a minimum transmittance that can be achieved by the liquid crystal element CL.
