PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of decomposing lignin which is advantageous in production of a variety of useful substances from lignin.SOLUTION: A method of decomposing lignin is based on decomposing lignin oxidatively with molecular oxygen in the presence of an alcohol. More specifically, lignin is decomposed oxidatively with molecular oxygen, without use of a catalyst, in a low-molecular-weight alcohol which is small in environmental load and easy to separate by distillation, and the method is characterized as a method of solubilizing lignin in the alcohol. |
