CONSERVED HBV AND HCV SEQUENCES USEFUL FOR GENE SILENCING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide dsRNA-mediated gene silencing, utilizing compositions that provide at least a partial double-stranded dsRNA, which is expected to provide extremely valuable therapeutic and/or prophylactic agents against virus infection, including HBV and/or HCV, including the extremely difficult problem of chronic HBV and/or HCV infection.SOLUTION: The invention provides conserved consensus sequences derived from known hepatitis B virus and known hepatitis C virus strains, which are useful for inhibiting virus expression in mammalian cells. These sequences are useful for silencing HBV and HCV genes, thereby useful for treatment of HBV and HCV virus infections in humans.
