A method for operating a reception unit in a motor vehicle controller connected to at least one transmission unit is presented. The reception unit has at least one input port for receiving signals from the transmission unit. The reception unit adds to the received signal an identifier that contains at least one virtual address for the transmission unit, which virtual address is ascertained using the respective input port and using the transmission period within a protocol frame, and preferably also a message counter. In addition, a corresponding reception unit is presented. This method is particularly suitable for a motor vehicle controller having a corresponding reception unit, wherein the motor vehicle controller processes sensor signals according to the PSI Version 2 standard, and the reception unit - providing that a sensor unit with a PSI5 Version 1 standard is connected - adds to the received signal an identifier that contains at least one virtual address for the transmission unit. |
