<p>The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for measuring optical modal gain characteristics, which enhance reliability via measurement of spontaneous emission density and mode confinement using a practical stripe length compensation technology and compensation of a modal gain value using measurement of heterogeneity within a stripe length in a process of measuring the optical modal gain characteristics. The apparatus includes: a specimen installation part installing a specimen; an energy applying part applying energy with a stripe shape to the specimen; a stripe length adjustment part adjusting a length of the energy with the stripe shape; and a specimen characteristic measurement part analyzing an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) spectrum of a light emitted from the specimen to generate a contour map composed of a wavelength, a energy stripe length and a modal gain, wherein the specimen characteristic measurement part extrapolates an ASE signal to acquire a point without an excited stripe in the real specimen and to compensate a modal gain value via measurement of the heterogeneity within the stripe length.</p> |
