摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an entrance and exit management system which reduces power consumption and extends service life of distance detection means, and also realizes smooth passage of people by simultaneously determining the passage of a plurality of people even when people concentrate at a gate. <P>SOLUTION: A distance detection control unit controls the irradiation time of light from a first distance detection unit 31 and a second distance detection unit 32, and determines passage of people. When an entering person touches a first reading unit 21 with a permit, the distance detection control unit detects a distance by controlling the second distance detection unit 32 opposite to the first reading unit 21. At this time, if another person can pass through between the entering person and a first gate post 11, the distance detection control unit detects a distance by controlling also the first distance detection unit 31 in addition to the second distance detection unit 32. After having started the first distance detection unit 31, when it is impossible for a person to pass through between the entering person and a second gate post 12, the distance detection control unit stops the second distance detection unit 32.
