PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positioning device capable of suppressing reduction of positioning accuracy resulting from a backlash. SOLUTION: The controller of a positioning device stores a correction map for a positive direction, a correction map for a reverse direction, and a reference position when moving a movable carriage. The controller performs the following processing: (1) an update processing of setting the position of a movement destination as a new reference position when the movable carriage moves to a position separated by a predetermined threshold value or more from the reference position; (2) a correction processing of correcting a position measurement value by a sensor using a correction map for the same direction as a travel direction to a target position from a present position when a distance between the reference position and the target position is the threshold value or more, and correcting the position measurement value by the sensor using correction maps for both directions when the distance between the reference position and the target position is less than the threshold value, and the travel direction is reversed at least once after setting the latest reference position; and (3) a control processing of matching the corrected position measurement value with the target position.
