PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF CARBONIC ACID ESTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the industrially advantageous production of carbonic acid esters, which is carried out by using exceedingly inexpensively obtainable carbon dioxide as a carbonylating agent having neither toxicity nor corrosiveness and an easily handleable catalyst.

SOLUTION: The process for the production of carbonic acid esters comprises reacting an alcohol with carbon dioxide in the presence of a cyclopentadienyl-metal complex represented by the general formula (I) Cp2-mM(X)2+m(I) [Cp is an optionally substituted cyclopentadienyl ring; X is an anionic ligand; M is titanium, zirconium or hafnium; m is an integer of 0 or 1].
