<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reader/writer to visually recognize a coverage. <P>SOLUTION: A user images a target RFID-tagged article with a camera 6 to display the article on a display screen 5. The viewing angle of a zoom lens of the camera 6 is adjusted to image only the RFID-tagged article on the display screen 5. The distance to the article is computed from the size of a laser beam point emitted from a laser beam projector 8. The actual size of the area projected on the display screen 5 is next computed. The directivity and output of an antenna 7 are adjusted in accordance with the distance to the RFID-tagged article and the actual size of the area projected on the display screen.
