PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head and a magnetic card reader provided with the same capable of preventing information discrepancy about the kinds and specifications and the like in magnetic heads. SOLUTION: The magnetic head has a pair of magnetic cores (core half-body 102) arranged oppositely holding a magnetic gap between them, a core holder 101 holding a pair of magnetic cores, a memory 110 in which discrimination information of a magnetic head 10 is recorded, and a shield case 103 housing a pair of the magnetic cores, the core holder 101, and the memory 110, and a tip of the magnetic core is exposed from a window 105 of a shield case 103, while the magnetic core, the core holder 101, and the memory 110 are fixed by resin 104 into the shield case 103.
