Disclosed is a method for producing univesicular liposomes which have a nano-sized average particle diameter. The method is capable of increasing the encapsulation rate for a medicine (especially a water-soluble one) or the like of the liposomes, when compared with conventional liposomes. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing univesicular liposomes, which is characterized in that secondary emulsification is carried out using a W1/O emulsion having an average particle diameter of not less than 20 nm but not more than 900 nm (most preferably using a W1/O emulsion having an average particle diameter of not less than 20 nm but not more than 200 nm and a CV value of not more than 40%), thereby forming a W1/O/W2 emulsion, and then the organic solvent phase is removed from the W/O/W emulsion, thereby obtaining vesicular liposomes. It is preferable that a microchannel emulsification technique is used for the secondary emulsification. It is also preferable that the oil phase of the W1/O emulsion is mainly composed of hexane. |
