A method is disclosed for the selective separation of chlorine from the product gas of an optionally catalytically-promoted HCl oxidation process using oxygen, which, in addition to chlorine, only contains excess oxygen, chemically-inert components, in particular carbon dioxide and inert gases and optionally HCl, said method comprising distillation and recycling of the oxygen stream free from chlorine to the HCl oxidation process. |
