A method of verifying the validity of travel tickets, the method including issuing prospective passengers with travel tickets that are provided with unique machine readable identities, allocating at least one particular travel route and travel time to each issued ticket, thereby validating each of the tickets for said at least one allocated route and travel time, keeping record of the unique machine readable identity of each validated ticket and each travel route and travel time allocated thereto, identifying an issued ticket by reading the unique machine readable identity of the ticket, and verifying the validity of a ticket whose unique machine readable identity has been read by comparing the recorded travel route and travel time with the travel route and time of transportation means to be boarded by the traveller. |
