The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for searching information capable of effectively providing a searching result by searching information by applying filters having different characteristics in each subject. The apparatus provides an optimized searching result in short time by applying a filter to information searching by comprising: a keyword input unit to receive a keyword; a subject selection unit to select a subject for classifying categories; a filter selection unit to select attribute information corresponding to a subject selected in the subject selection unit; a searching unit to classify information searching results by applying the attribute information to search information according to the subject and the keyword and to the information searching result through the searching filter; and a searching result display unit to display the information searching result classified by the searching unit on a main screen and to display a subject and a filter applied to the searching unit on a sub-screen. The apparatus provides the optimized searching result by providing various attribute information in each document category through a filter.
