<p>An image pickup apparatus and methods are disclosed for changing a live view photographing drive mode without causing live view display freezing (delay). Where image signals output from an image pickup device sent via first and second paths are used respectively for live view and for AF, a drive mode is changed such that image signals from the second path can be (temporarily) used for live view, then a destination of live view signals is changed from the first path to the second path, then the drive mode is changed such that high-definition live view image signals are output from the first path, the acquisition destination of the live view signals then being changed from the second to first path. Different image sensor readout modes are claimed, using, respectively, signals from: predetermined readout rows (first mode); from a different number of readout rows than that of predetermined rows (second mode); and for reading of non overlapping rows (third mode). Readout rate and/or exposure condition may be independently controlled for each of different areas of a 2D image device array.</p> |
