<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for utilizing zinc-containing iron scrap by which, when utilizing the zinc-containing iron scrap as an iron source in an iron making process, zinc can be removed from the zinc-containing iron scrap by a simple and inexpensive method and, as the result, even in the case of use as an iron source without previously removing zinc in the zinc-containing iron scrap by heating treatment etc., the occurrence of zinc concentration in dust recovered in each iron making process can be prevented and the recovered dust can be used, as it is, as a raw material for iron making. <P>SOLUTION: The zinc-containing iron scrap 5 is charged into the vicinity of bottom refractory and/or side-wall refractory of a vessel 1 constructed of refractory material 3, and the zinc in the zinc-containing scrap is oxidized and vaporized using the heat of the vessel.
