The method involves storing data files (JDD1-JDD4) issued from equipments (V1-V4) and representing failures occurred in certain elements of the equipments, by using storing units (MS). Each data file is transformed into a shape vector by using a processing module (MT). Prototype vectors are constructed for M-identified failures by using the shape vectors to form a database containing the prototype vectors representing the identified failures and M sets of M-1 failures excluding each of the M identified failures. An independent claim is also included for a device for generating a database representing failures occurred in an equipment, comprising a storage unit.
