<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic ticket examining machine, improved in security against the use of a copied forged ticket when ticket information printed on the surface of the ticket is optically read to discriminate whether to permit a user to pass through a ticket gate. <P>SOLUTION: The automatic ticket examining machine 1 stores issuance information in a storage part 12 when receiving the issuance information including the issuing number and issuing time of a ticket issued by a ticket machine 2. A reading part 13 optically reads the ticket information printed on a ticket surface of the ticket. The issuance information corresponding to the ticket information is read from the storage part 12 on the basis of the issuing number included in the ticket information read by the reading part 13, and the corresponding ticket information is collated with the issuing information to thereby discriminate whether to permit the user to pass through the ticket gate.
