<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve an optimum phrase according to context, without depending on the language ability of a document creator when preparing a foreign language document. <P>SOLUTION: An English sentence generation supporting device 100 is designed for retrieving an English phrase by utilizing a database with English text data stored therein. Japanese translation for an English word is retrieved by a retrieval query generation processing part 203 as a related word of the English word designated to be a retrieved in the English phrase which is inputted from an input part 201 by an English sentence creator. The retrieval query being an English sentence phrase for retrieval is generated by retrieving the English translation of the retrieved related word. The generated retrieval query is retrieved in a corpus by a retrieval processing part 204.
