PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material which exhibits larger discharge capacity, and a lithium ion battery. SOLUTION: There are provided an aluminum-containing olivine silicate compound presented by formula (1): Li<SB POS="POST">a</SB>Fe<SB POS="POST">x</SB>Mn<SB POS="POST">y</SB>Al<SB POS="POST">z</SB>SiO<SB POS="POST">4</SB>, wherein (a), x, y and z represent the numbers satisfying 1<a≤2, 0≤x<1, 0≤y<1, 0<z<1, a+2x+2y+3z=4 and x+y≠0, and a lithium ion battery containing it.
